Lan was exhausted. He had been out all day and night with no food or sleep searching for Morianida's precious bow. If it were so special, you would think she owuld take better care of it. He frowned and finally collapsed onto a rock, not able to stand any longer. He wiped at his dirt covered face tiredly and took a long sip from his canteen. Then he heard a sound and the water dribbled over his chin.

Valaina moved through the forest swiftly. Someone had told her where to find Lan and it had taken a couple of hours for her to catch up with him. When she finally found him, he looked exhausted. "Excuse me" she said politely "Are you Lan?"

Lan wiped his mouth with the back of his hand and looked at the girl suspiciously before realizing he was a gentleman. He stood up and bowed. "Yes, I am," he said. "Tylanche Robinsword at your service. Who might you be?"

"Valaina Gwilwileth" said Valaina as she returned the bow "I mean you no harm. I have something for you"

Lan quirked an eyebrow at her. "What is it?" he asked simply.

" A message" Valaina felt slightly nervous now. She didn't know how this man would react to the letter.

"A girl" said Valaina handing over the piece of paper "She didn't tell me her name". Valaina felt bad about lying but Damaria lived on the shadow side and Valaina wasn't sure how Tylanche would react.

Tylanche took the paper from Valiana and read part of it with a scowl on his face. He crumbled it up with his fist and threw it behind her shoulder. "She's a filthy lying hag," he muttered to himself. He hadn't read all of it. "Why were you near the shadow side?" he said looking to the girl darkly. That was forbidden.

Valaina grew angry. "Not that it is any of your business but I did not venture into the shadow side so I was breaking no rules".

"Then why were you in, or even near the bleak?" he asked her angrily. It wasn't directed towards her. It was the fact that Damaria was full of it.

"That has nothing to do with you" snapped back Valaina "I was asked to bring you a message so I did"

"I'm a queen's guard," he said glaring at her attitdue. "I have the right to sieze possessions and demand inquiries," he said.

Valaina did not back down. "There is also a letter for the princess" she said handing him another envelope.

"Well she won't be receiving it!" he said and crumbled it up. Lan tossed it behind his shoulder.
